Restart

RESTART shows kindness, compassion and love to some of the least among us living in the Syracuse area. RESTART provides essential items like dishes, glasses, silverware, pots and pans, towels, sheets and blankets to individuals and families who are now starting over in their new homes. This way they can feel more comfortable and they always appreciate being able to live more independently with these donations.

An example of someone who received items from RESTART is a family that included a mother and three children ages 5, 4 and 3. The moved to Syracuse to escape violence. At first the family lived with friends but grew tired of having their food disappear, so they moved into a shelter where staff helped them find an apartment. They had no furniture, bedding or other household supplies. Within a few days, the mother was hospitalized and spent several days receiving care. When she returned to the apartment, the family still had nothing but RESTART was able to provide dishes, linens and other supplies so that they could begin a more comfortable and safe life together.

The project accepts the following items.

  • Beds, mattresses and box springs (clean with no stains or tears.)
  • Furniture such as couches, chairs, kitchen tables, dressers and lamps.
  • Linens for bedrooms (mark sizes)’ bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Dishes, silverware, glasses and cups.
  • Pots, pans, etc. for cooking.
  • Other items such as coffee makers, microwave ovens, etc.

For donations of lamps or furniture contact Evelyn Disinger (edisinger235@gmail.com) and Jackie Sadowski (jlsadowski@aol.com). Both of these sites fill a home or apartment for someone whose life is in transition or “Restarting”

Smaller items marked “RESTART” may be left at UUMC. Jackie will see they get to the distribution site. Larger items; i.e. furniture, please contact the donations coordinator.

Donations we accept for United Methodist RESTART Ministry.

Monetary donations can be made through UUMC. Checks should be made out to Syracuse United Methodist Ministries or SUMM.
