In the sanctuary during all worship services, a Children's Table is set up for children Art supplies and a classroom sized table and chairs are available to children. Often their adult(s) sits near them, but the table is available for their use. An adult associated with children's programming tidies the table and makes sure that supplies are available.
A fully designated childcare room for children to age 4 is provided weekly by a trained provider. Safe Sanctuary standards are in place. A parent/guardian is welcome to use the childcare space with their child/children if a child needs a short period of time to be away from the sanctuary. Use of this option is entirely up to the adults' discretion. Older children should not be left in the room to be cared for by the staff member.
There are several programs currently in stages of development. A reading corner will be established as another site in the sanctuary for children to visit and use. This area will be at the back of the sanctuary and will include stocked book shelves with rugs and pillows for sitting. Direct supervision will not be provided, but adults who are with the children will have seating available. Adults will be asked to be with their children when they are using this space. There will be a rotation of books on a regular basis. Reading materials will reflect the vision and principles of UUMC.
