When most of us think about Jonah, we immediately think about a big fish—but there is much more to this short and fascinating book of the Bible!
Beginning Sunday, October 25, Bruce Webster will facilitate a four-week Bible study, Jonah Isn’t Just Another Whale Story. Together, we’ll look beyond the familiar Sunday school story and explore what Jonah has to say about God, ourselves, our neighbors, and what happens when God’s grace stretches farther than we expect.
The study will meet Sundays at 5:00 p.m. on the second floor. Contact the church office to sign up.
This fall, join us for a six-week journey through Reading the Bible with Bonhoeffer. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a German pastor and theologian whose Christian faith led him to resist the Nazi regime and whose writings continue to challenge Christians around the world. Together, we’ll explore how Bonhoeffer approached Scripture and consider what his life, faith, and witness can teach us about reading and living the Bible faithfully in our own time.
Sundays at 9:15 a.m. in the Gathering Room, through November 8, with a break on October 11.
Books are $18. Sign up through the church office and place your book order by September 9. To register, call 315-475-7277 or email office@UUMCsyracuse.org. Whether Bonhoeffer is an old friend or a new name to you, all are welcome to join the conversation.
Thursday Morning Bible Study is designed especially for our online community, creating a space to build relationships, enjoy fellowship, and wrestle together with how we read and understand the Bible.
This six-week study, Better Ways to Read the Bible, will invite us to approach Scripture with curiosity and faith as we consider different ways to engage with biblical texts and the questions they raise for our lives today.
The study run froms through October 29 at 10:00 a.m. on Zoom. ZOOM link HERE.
A companion book is available for optional purchase at Cokesbury.com for approximately $15.50–$18.50, depending on whether it is a hardcopy or an e-book. Purchasing the book is not required to participate—everyone is welcome to join the conversation, with or without it.
