Letter from the UNY Annual Conference Board of Trustees
Dear Pastor French and Congregants of University United Methodist Church:
Peace to you.
I am writing to you in my role as president of the Board of Trustees of the Upper New York Annual Conference, the leaseholder for space used for Conference offices in your building.
The trustees and I are grateful for the partnership with you which provided new space for our new Conference and long-term capital improvements to UUMC. I believe this is a testimony to and a real investment in our connectional system. We continue to be thankful for your willingness to work with us to provide appropriate space for the Conference and Episcopal offices.
As I am sure you are aware, our Conference is steadily evolving. With this comes staffing changes, emerging space needs, and more experienced thinking about how our Conference Center can equip local churches for making disciples. With this in mind, the trustees have been asked to develop a long-term plan for housing the Conference and Episcopal offices. A task force has been appointed to identify and evaluate needs, trends, priorities, and visions. With much conversation, examination, sifting, resourcefulness, and prayer, a plan will be developed and presented to the UNYAC membership for approval during its annual session in 2014 or 2015.
The task force has been gathering information. A next step is to invite interested people across the Conference community to participate in a survey about UNYAC office facilities. In order to reach as many people as possible, the survey and invitation to participate will be offered through the UNYAC website. We hope you will add your voices to those of many others whom we expect to participate.
At this early stage, it is impossible to project what the long-term space plan will be. Please be assured that the trustees and the task force know that the outcome of this work affects your church and your planning. We will keep you informed as the plan takes shape and provide timely notice of any proposed changes in our space sharing relationship.
Please contact me or Wendy Deichmann, Task Force Convener, if you have any questions or concerns.
Grace and Peace to you,
Deborah Byers, President
UNYAC Board of Trustees
